hi i got a bmw 330ci automatic, and my car doesnt seems to start up, but if you bypass the relay you can get the car to start but then it doesnt go into reverse... any sugestions on how i can solve the problem? i was told ecu need re-mapping but not to sure.. is this a common fault with the 3 series? thank you for your time

There's an inhibitor switch to prevent it starting except in Park or Neutral - could be this out of adjustment, sounds very like it. Not sure exactly where it is on this model, I'm afraid.

What you say is not uncommon on BMW cars. The ECU looks at the position sensor and tells the car its OK to start. If the data is not processing it correctly it will not start so the ECU needs to be flashed.

speak to your local dealer BMW TIS (technical information support) should source the problem--you dont say how old it is??? under 5 years .... you could still be into warranty all the best marc
