Money talks. However, the middle class still can't make it too easy on their kids. Easier to impress upon their kids the value of education.

Rich folks tend to have really spoiled kids who may be unwilling to work hard. Meanwhile, the parents have really high hopes for their kids. I'm talking the kid going to Harvard instead of the local state college. Contrary to popular belief, Harvard won't take a kid simply because daddy will donate some money. It's gotta be an extraordinary amount of money b/c Harvard has plenty of rich donors already.

I highly disagree. Parents with the most money will get their way every time. Now, if you're talking about state colleges, the student's school record speaks volumes to the university and that is the basis for accepting them. Poor people get the best deal when it comes to colleges because they are eligible for tons of scholarships, which is the way it should be. However, the middle class suffers because they work hard and don't get the breaks that the wealthy or the poor get.

Hope this sheds new light on your question.

I think Middle Class parents have the time and the resources to really work on education. I grew up with a mom who had to work 2 and 3 jobs just to keep a roof over my head and food on the table. My mom did her absolute best but there just wasn't enough time in the day for her to do everything. I now have 3 kids and am considered "middle class" I'm fortunate that I don't have to work and can devote all my time to my kids and their education. The truth is that most people can't!

i think they get in because middle class put a strong emphasis on education and doing well, but when it comes right down to it, most colleges won't provide the necessary aid to middle class families in forms other than loans (which suck by the way).
