I have an old dog who doesn't move around too much. he like to sit right at my feet when I watch TV so I figured that I would strap a board on him and have a coffee table. Is that against the law?

The part about Australian kids being used as furniture is actually true. It seems to be common among emerging civilizations. The Hopi have a proud tradition of using themselves as curtain rods, and the Maya would arrange themselves in the sacred mantle-piece dance. The Maori have ancient games in which their opponents have to guess which piece of lawn furniture they are representing. X!hosa of the Kalihari have a male initiation right, where they go into the desert, fast, and meditate for about 6 days. At the end of the fast the spirit-god appears to them and gives them their secret "Rumestoogeaux" name which must never be repeated.

But it has all been cheapened by the appearance, on the internet of course, of "furnography:" the placing of furniture in sexually innapropriate positions.

I have no real life.

I don't know about it being against the law but I do know that's mean. Just because the dog can't stand up for himself doesn't give you the right to treat him like a coffee table. Dogs are living things and you should be ashamed of yourself for thinking of doing that. It's animal abuse and I am really disapointed in you. If you care about him old or not you won't use him like that. He's a living creature after all who deserves respect.

Only if the dog is in immediate danger of being injured. (Well, thank you Ranger Smokey Bear).
I am told small children are also used as occasional furniture in some of the less enlightened states of Australia, so take heart, you are not being a bad, bad, man in making use of your trusty companion!
(Actually, I only made that bit about Australia up to make my answer seem vaguely interesting).
