I love the Final Fantast series, but World of Warcraft looks bigger and more popular (therefore more players). Which is most popular and best?

A buddy of mine always debates with me that FFXI is better than WoW.
I played FFXI for 2 1/2 years (I on my PC, my boyfriend on his PS2). I ended up building my boyfriend a PC for Christmas of 2005. As soon as he got that PC we switched straight to WoW.
There may be a thing or two I miss about FFXI, but I have a whole list of things that WoW has shown to be better.... than FFXI anyway.
The only way you can really see if you like something better than something else, is to try it.
My buddy never tried WoW so in my mind, he has no authority to say what's better.

nah mate they are compleletley different only thing they have in common is that they are rpgs final fantasy is a turn based rpg which is some what story driven though all the stories tend to boil down to the same thing ( your the chosen one save the world ! ) each ff game is stand alone and its an off line single player game wow is an massive multiplayer online rpg it can only be played online it has an inkling of a story ( not much ) and it has a real time combat system you press a button and he game follows your commands immediatly other then that wow is massive some first sections alone could constitute as a whole game

I've never tried any of the FF series, but I've been playing WoW for more than 2 years and love it. Since I don't have the ability to compare, I'll just suggest that you try out wow (see the free 10-day trial link below)!
I would consider WoW the most popular since it has 8 million subscribers and broke records for the most games sold in 1 day when the recent expansion pack came out (2.4 million i think).

You mean Final Fantasy XI, right? I have played both, and they are entirely different games. In FFXI it takes a fair amount of time to get far in the game (where all of the expansions are centred nowadays), and parties with others are mandatory.
However, in WoW, you can solo for a large portion of the game, and things are generally easier. Also, the crowd is a lot nicer. :)
I liked both games a lot, but one thing really bothered me. When you die in FFXI? You lose a lot of experierience points. :(

it all depends on what you like doing. ff is a turn based rpg which takes a while to get high levels, but is extremely fun and well worth it. also, in ff, parties are everywhere and are a must to get far. wow is an rpg where you can just go off by yourself and level. parties are fewer but i tend to think wow parties stick with each other more and are closer knit. on the bad side, many people i know are sadly over obsessed with wow and have forgotten their other lives.

I know WoW has 8 million players. I think Final fantasy is garbage compared to WoW. Turned based RPG's are boring and not fun to play in my opinion.
