recently yes kobe has been the best player in the nba. the reason why doesnt have anything to do with numbers. He has an all-around game. If the team needs a stop, kobe can get it, if they need clutch freethrows, kobe delivers. A 3 to tie the game? Kobe has that as well. He has finally become a team player and a true leader for his team, Lakers wouldnt be anywhere close to their success had kobe not been playing like he has. Look at odom and luke and bynum, evans, cook, all having career seasons. Lebron was claiming the top, but he still lacks defense, and his freethrow shooting has dropped every season(68%). Wade is a great player as well, but he too lacks that 3-point shot that he really needs to add to his arsenal, and the heat have been a disappointment, else he'd be at the top. Nowitzki, anyone can make his case and be legit, Arenas is great but not the best. Nash is the best point guard in the game, but he truely is liable on defense. But kobe has that all around game, perimeter/post defense, inside game, outside game, mid-range, slam it, finger roll, drve it in, anything you can think of chances are kobe has it and has done it. It really is that killer instinct and motivation to finally start winning and not showing off that has kobe in a tier where he probably sits all alone.

Is Kobe the best? Without a doubt. How many players can be surrounded by a starting lineup of Smush Parker, Luke Walton, and Brian Cook and still win games? First of all, the definition of the best player needs to be said - it is the player who gets his numbers AND makes his teammates better. Nash is great, but he has Shawn Marion and Amare Stoudemire alongside him, two future hall of famers with or without Nash as their teammate. Lebron is a future hall of famer too, but he's got some good players around him with Ilgauskas and Gooden and still has his team only six games over .500 in the Eastern Conference, plausibly the worst conference in the history of the NBA. Next up is Dirk. But he's only half of a great player - the individual half. The dividing line between these guys and Kobe is what I'd like to call the "record-to-team talent ratio." The Lakers are quite possibly the worst team in the NBA without Kobe, but with him Smush, Luke, Brian, Jordan and the rest look outstanding with a superb record to boot. And that is why the others are great but Kobe is the greatest.

No. He's the most popular. I don't see how KB24 can say "look at what he did to Boston." I mean c'mon, its' Boston. They aren't doing well this year anyway, not to mention the Eastern Conference is not too strong this year in the first place.
Is Kobe a great scorer in the half court set-yes. Give him the ball and he can score. Every Kobe fan goes to the 81 point game he had against the Raptors. 81 points is great, but if you were his teammate would you like to be the peanut gallery in a one man circus act? I wouldn't. The best player you ask? Yeah, if we were making a highlight reel, or playing pick up games in my backyard.
Let's face it, The Lakers as a franchise has suffered with him. They lost Shaq (and Phil for a season) because of Kobe, and they've not made a serious run at a championship since. In fact, I don't think there's much LEFT of the last LA championship team still playing in LA.
I say it's Nash for one simple reason,"Five men on the floor, functioning as one single unit, Team, Team, Team. No one man greater than the other..."

the question was, is Kobe the best player, not best team, duh... Yes he is the best player. Stop comparing Nash with Kobe, please. Nash's job is to pass the ball to his teammates, not be a scorer, which is Kobe's job. So its a stupid comparison. Everyone always knocked Kobe when he had Shaq, well, they don't seem to knock Nash with the cast of characters he has. Passing the ball to an open teammate, and having that teammate make a shot isnt so hard. The hardest part is making the shot. But when a team knows you're the best player, and they game plan to stop you, and you still go out there and drop 30-35 on a team, that takes talent. No one gameplans on how to stop Nash, they may gameplan on how to stop his team, but not just Nash. But then, everyone seems to forget that basketball is played on both sides. There is offense and defense. Are you guys honestly telling me Nash is a better defender than Kobe, come on. Wade and Lebron may soon get there, but they aren't yet. Duncan and KG, maybe. Ducan has a good game, but not enough of that killer instinct thats needed. The same thing with KG, but considering his size and his ability, I would say thats the only minor flaw he has. All things considered, I think KG is a close second to Kobe, followed by Duncan then Lebron and Wade. But the main thing to this question is who is the best player, not who would you start your team with, or who's more valuable. Who's the best player? Kobe....

YESSS KB24 (kobe) is the best player because he proved this season that he can pass the ball and still score over 40 points yesterdays game against boston his stats were 43pts 8asts 8rebs...and in the season he is averaging 28.8pts 5.6asts and 5.5 rebs his assists and rebounds are both careers highs and his team is doing good. that was his only weakness passing the ball and making others around him better. and now he overcame that weakness now he is unstoppable in more then one way, he can hurt u by scoring and by passing :-)

Easily he is at the top but my vote goes to Dirk Nowitzki he is a way better player he shoots free-throws at a high percentage and even makes the 3 ball when his name is called.

He might be the most talented, though Lebron is right there with him. But he is definitly not the best. I would take Nash, Lebron, D-Wade, Nowitzki, Duncan, Arenas, and may be a few others over him. They make their teams better and are trying to win, not just trying to look good.
