If its really the figure what you have mentioned then its much much more than generally needed

But I suggest you to first technicially verify whether the figures are correct or not.

I am going to guess that your broadband is actuall 3Gbps, not 3Mbps. (A difference of about 1000 times the speed).

Your broadband is probably faster then your wireless connection. Upgrading BOTH the router and the wireless card in your laptop to a 108mpbs would increase your speed. (You have to do both - just changing the router will not make a difference, because the card in the laptop will still be talking at the slower speed). But keep in mind that wireless speed is effected by signal strength, distance from router, if other people are also using your wireless (the 54 or 108mbps is shared between all users), etc. So going to a router and card with double the speed does not guarantee that your Internet speed will double. But it should improve.

You can also try connecting your laptop to the router with a cable, and then running any of the dozens of free programs that give you your Internet speed. That will tell you how fast your boradband actually is running. That speed is the fastest you will ever be able to go regardless of the router you are using. If it is below 100mpbs, switching will not give you enough increase to be worth the money.

3 Mbps is equal 375 KB/s. It's not slow. I have 4Mbps ADSL internet connection in the house and at work i have 3 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload using SDSL.

You've a really fast Internet. 3mbps means 384 Kb/sec speed you are getting and this is simply great.

If you wish to upgrade you can do that and you will get much faster speed than your current router speed.
