i got to the stage with them where they told me i need a critique. luckily i traced them to perfora.net, a dangerous website (thank god my father is a prgrammer!)and found out they weren't serious!
anyone else had a bad experience with them or someone similar? does anyone want to tell me why they actually do this and where they get their money? be grateful for any feedback on this type of thing.

New York Literary Agency (and its related sites...there are about a dozen) are scam artists who take advantage of people's desperation to get published. An agency does NOT get paid unless they place your manuscript! Period. End of story. That's it. Any agency that tries to get money out of you in advance, or tries to charge you for add-on services is a scam.

I suggest people always research any company before dealing with them. Two places where you can find a lot of information about scams are Brady Magazine and Preditors and Editors. Both have a lot of information about all sorts of scams, including this one. Also check out Writer's Beware (which listed New York Literary Agency as one of the 20 worst!)

What Kathryn W suggested. The "ultimate" agent or writer for a accepted time author is the single that asserts particular while each and all the others say no. you generally have not got any determination. And why do people who ask this variety of question in no way say what form they write, or perhaps what u . s . a . they stay in? once you're a romance author in New Zealand, there is not any factor sending your e book to a horror writer in Canada who basically occurs to be searching for brand spanking new authors this month. (although whether you had suggested, i does no longer call any brokers or publishers. it is your activity. particularly - you have spent months or years scripting this e book, and you will't be troubled to spend some days slogging with the aid of a itemizing of a risk publishers?) in case you suck at queries, the two study a thank you to no longer suck, or settle for that your e book isn't printed via a usual writer (the variety who will pay you, no longer any opposite direction around). particular, that is unfair that they choose your e book consistent with textual content fabric that doesn't look interior the e book, yet they carry (almost) each and all the taking part in cards in this sport. lots greater human beings want to be paid to write down books than the e book-procuring public is keen or able to help, so publishers may well be - might desire to be - very picky approximately which books they settle for. look on it as a flair try. If a author does not recognize how considerable the question is to the writer or agent, and hasn't troubled to verify a thank you to write down an excellent question, what are the possibilities that they have got troubled to verify a thank you to write down an excellent (ie marketable) tale?

Nina:
Wow!!!! Thank you, Thank you. I have been sending writers to them thinking they were an honest company. I will do this no more until I find out for sure what is it they really do.
