Could it be that they look at it as, if you're still making tons of mistakes after 3 1/2 years in combat... you're just not going to get it right irregardless of how many years you try?

I guess on the other hand you could take the easy way out to answering the question and say their libs now. Stupid...but easy!

Because way back when, you were labled un-American for not agreeing with everything that Bush came up with - not only that, you would ruin your career. I think now, they've finally realized...that "we the people" have the real control over their careers - the last election was a wake-up call for them to pull their heads out of their dark holes and stand up for what's right....(or at least do what the people want to protect their jobs, either way it works out)

Because the US is a democracy.

Senators will be held accountable for their actions in their next election. If a majority of Americans oppose the handling of the war, any Senator close to election has to start feeling nervous. In fact, a higher percentage of the 21 Republican Senators facing re-election in 2008 are turning on Bush than Republican Senators overall.

Constantly making mistakes is also a legitimate reason, but it's a little late for that - Bush is out of office in 2 years whether Republican Senators support him or not.

God God !! There's no such word as "irregardless"!!

Bush is probably the only one who still thinks he is doing the right thing by spending billions of tax dollars in Iraq. What he fails to see is that the money would be better spent securing the US southern border and rebuilding New Orleans, but no, he puts Iraqi citizens ahead of US citizens.

By now most people have realized this, and although Great Things have been done in Iraq despite the "religious" killers, the same Great Things could have been done in the US instead, and let the rest of the world go about killing itself as usual. they don't need our help.

Its because election year is coming up. Since President Bush has such low approval ratings right now, the other Republicans don't want to be associated with him. They are fearful that any association with Bush will weaken the Republican Party's 2008 Presidential campaign, and cause people to vote Democratic.

Because the Dems are now in control. It makes sense to the reps to act like they are going with the will of the people. It may help them regain office at the next elections.
