hi !!
ours is a cricket crazy nation and there is no focus on football.
football has receded into the background and nobody feels motivated to play the game.parents encourage their children to play cricket but how many folks actually send their son to a football academy??boys who go abroad to train remain there and don't come back,e.g. Chirag Paul(with due respect to him) !!moreover the game has to be nationalized:it is concentrated only in bengal, goa and mumbai.the north east needs to be given more importance coz there is a lot of talent there.
to add to lack of motivation is faulty infrastructure, indifference on the part of the administation and lack of academies.where are training academies in india except the ''TFA'' ,''SAI'' and ''SAIL ACADEMY'' ??
To add to these are physical and physiological barriers:lean constitution and tropical climate!!
but if care is taken from the grassroot level, more importance is given to nursery leagues and more academies with proper coaching faculty come up,india will improve!!
plus the media needs to package the game smartly:just some cheerleaders dancing on a private channel will not help the cause!!but i'm soccer crazy and i'm a maniac so i am still very hopeful about my country making it.

cheers and god bless:-)

Not in the near future! Or unless we give some Brazilians or Nigerians or some others Indian nationality that is! ;) Let's first reach there, then we'll think about qualifying to the next round, then winning... one step at a time mate! Still, support India at the Asia Cup next year... hope it will be a good outing! Thoda Dil do Football Ko ;)

You pretty much answered your own question. They lack in proper coaching and talent. To become a real national threat, the team must first reach the level of play that other nations are on. The sport isn't popular enough, in terms of professional play, to where these players can get the right coaching and training that they need. Until that happens, they will have to go with what they have and see how far they can get.

It's we who have not made the game popular in India. You know one thing that consumers position the market of the product. It's not the product designer.

Example somebody of us claim the Tata Indica as taxi because most of the call centres use it as taxi. Hence it is the customer who position the market. Likewise it is we who are popularising the game.

Please start watching the Indian team playing football.

That is because only two states among the 26 play football.Rest of the others bet on cricket which is a non contact game.
