In this situation I wouldn't go for the brown as it's always a tight shot.
I'd play for time in the hope that my opponent would free up the pink making it easier to get at.
Alternatively make it look as if you're going for the brown and then at the last minute make a stab at the pink. This requires good ball control though and is not for the inexperienced.
A long cue is helpful for this manouevre and remember that you should keep one foot on the floor at all times to avoid a foul being called.

If it's a difficult Brown, Id take my time to a have a good look at both and then make my choice. Maybe the pink will go from a different angle. You could end up fouling on the brown and knock the pink anyway.
