There's not a lot you can do until he wants help.
Don't support his habits in any way. If he wants money for stuff for the baby refuse - buy stuff for the baby, but never give yr brother any cash. Refuse to speak to him when he's drunk or drinking. Be supportive to his baby's mother as much as you can, but don't support the drunk!!! Be steadfast. He may decide to blame you or some other person for his problems, but it's not your fault and you don't have to take that from him!

call social services on him. There is no way unless he WANTS to get help. You cannot force someone to stop drinking. That have to want to. You can always try to get all of your family members together to force him into rehab. It may work. Keeping in mind that he is only 17.... so he's still technically a minor. Babies having babies....

it's a sad thing, alcoholism...besides rehab, he would have to have a great tragedy happen before he will stop, and it's not guaranteed that he will stop even after something tragic happens. i would do some research and show him what alcohol can do to a person, and their family...maybe even find a person who is a recovered alcoholic to talk to your brother. i know that as a teenager, the chances of him listening are slim, but it's worth a shot, right?

He's gotta want to stop. Once he admits he has a problem then he can begin to straighten up. There are avenues to take that aren't "rehab". AA meetings and things like that for example.

Rehab can't even help unless he wants it to. To stop something you are addicted to you have to want to stop AND have the "will" power to do so.

you can't get him to stop...he has to want to stop himself
If he does not want to stop, even rehab won't help...he will just start again when he gets out
he has to make the decision to stop on his own
the best you can do is hold him up in prayer continuously

YOU cannot GET another person to stop any kind of destructive behavior. Your brother must acknowledge his problem(s) and truly want to change them. It's all in his hands.

I agree with others who have answered. He will not quit until he wants to. Also does he know how you feel about his drinking. Communication can never hurt.

He needs to be taken out to the country and have his butt kicked. He probably will ruin this child and never be responsible.

how about counseling him.... but still he gets to help himself first... how about a good talk with him... try to find out what's the prob... and try boosting his morale...
