Usually nobody can beat me at Trivial Pursuit, or any games like that, but if I read the newspaper, or a book, I cannot hardly tell you a thing about it an hour later.

Long term memory and short term memory at two separate issues addressed in different parts of the brains with different chemical reactions. It is no big deal. Trivia is always more important than what you had for lunch. No one wins a bar bet with their lunch answer.

You're interested in trivia, and the newspaper is basically 'who killed who today'..won't hold your attention much longer than the time it takes to read it.
Pretty normal, I'd say.
