Recently, an article in the Business section of the Daily Breeze of Torrance, California, did a story on a small coffee stand in Tukwila, Washington called: Cowgirls Espresso. The company employs young women dressed in revealing halter tops and bras to serve coffee at these small drive thru coffee stands. According to the article, the women wear 'pasties' over their nipples and as long as they aren't showing their breasts and buttocks, they aren't breaking the law. And according to the patrons (who are predominately male), the coffee ain't bad neither.
Business, according to the article, is good (huh, who wouldda thunk it?). The stands make about $800 per day, with the women receiving minimum wage, plus $80 to $150 in tips.
Question for you ladies (or anyone who cares to answer): Is this good buisness or blatant 'sexplotation?' Please elaborate on your response.

Both. Its a good spin-off of the Hooters business idea, and sex still sells. So long as its come right up to but doesn't cross the legal line, they're fine. However, the vice standards of pasties and hip-huggers aren't to the liking of some, who might prefer it to be more puritanical. If they feel the need to make an issue of it, let 'em. But then there are women who aspire to these kind of jobs and men who solicit these bars and restaurants. But who decides a community's ethical measure other than the community itself? The wages aren't great, but when its coffee you're serving you can't expect be able to pay high wages. The decent tips may supplement the low wage. I personally wouldn't make a career out of it - since waiting tables is hard work, I also wouldn't want to manage that type of business - retail goods & service businesses are a drag to operate. But the reality is its a business idea with built in marketability.

Young girl wearing a tank top and short shorts right now... So I think I'm better than everyone else and that I own the world? Sorry, but you're sorely mistaken. The reason I dress this way...is because it's late Summer in New York right now. If you come here, almost all the girls my age dress this way. I'm just following a trend and keeping cool at the same time. I'm also enjoying the ability to go around with less weight. Once the cold of Autumn sets in, I'll have to go back to jeans and jackets. By winter, I'll be going around in a coat which weighs like 4-8 pounds or something, on my way to school with a backpack which weighs even more.

Good business...

Everyone makes a concious choice about how they want to live there life. If I like a little eye candy with my coffee in the morning and I am willing to pay for it than that is my choice. If you don't like it then go to starbucks. The employees also have a choice to work there or not. They could work at McDonalds if they wanted but they get better tips I am sure at this coffee joint.

Boys will be boys. And you will never see my daughter working there while she lives in my house. But America is a free country, a lot of people have lost there lives to defend these freedoms.

There's nothing wrong with it and there shouldn't be any reason for complaints. The women who work there and wear the costumes and doing it of their own free will. If they don't want to do it, they could just as easily quit and find a job somewhere else.
And anyone else from the general public who would complain about it being immoral doesn't have to buy their coffee at that particular place.

This is disgraceful. I feel bad for the young women who feel it necessary or even just want to participate in an organization such as this coffee stand. They learn to build up a wall to men and only do this for money. They won't be able to have healthy relationships. I hope they can find the confidence to stop treating themselves so poorly and choose education as a weapon against this sexist exploitation. Ladies, please, please know you are worth so much more than $150 in tips.

$16 to $25 bucks an hour (counting tips)...? for serving coffee? put me in some pasties... pity I'm a guy...

Is it sex ploitation - much advertising directed as men uses women to attract the male market... its simply good policy - us guys are dumb that way.

Considering the amount they're making, I think they're probably better off than working at Taco Bell...

Just my .01

It's not difficult to understand that sex sells. This is definitely sexploitation, and I feel sorry for the women who are allowing a boss to use them in this way.

Good business or exploitation? Both.
Face it, sex sells. Hooters is a prime example. And they're billed as a family restaurant!

Well, it is just like a topless cafe in some of the countries. Not illegal but morally wrong.
