Okay with all the news going on about Tara Conner (Miss USA) and the Miss America pagent held on Tuesday... I am trying to figure out the steps in this...
First you do your town thing right? Lets say Miss Nashville
Then you run for Miss TN right...
Then from there do you go to Miss America or Miss USA? If you go for Miss America, then do you go to Miss USA????
Trying to figure out as fiance and I were saying different things!

Ok - Miss America and Miss USA- two completely different systems.

Miss America - all the info you need is on the website: http://www.missamerica.org
You compete in your local pageant (preliminary) and then the winners of these pageants compete for the state title to be Miss Tennessee (or whatever state is appliciable). The state queens compete for the national title of Miss America. After Miss America the new pageant season begins.

Miss USA - I do not think that most states hold local prelims, but rather the state pageant is open, which means, anyone may enter. You will be given a local title to compete at the state pageant with. The state pageant winner holds the title of Miss Tennessee USA, or whatever state applies with USA at the end. The state winners then compete for the title of Miss USA. Miss USA competes with the queens from other countries for the title of Miss Universe. The pageant season then starts over. www.missusa.com, there is contact information for each state on there as well.

You are right, win a local then a state. However, some preliminaries are for Miss USA and some are for Miss America. They are both different pageant systems. Depends on which system you would want to vie for.

You start out in local pageants, you move on to the state pageant, from there you go to the national pageant and then the world pageant. Miss America and Miss USA are not related. You can go either way .

To become Miss America, a contestant must first win a local competition and then compete to represent her state, a process requiring personal commitment, hard work and talent. A woman may compete at the state level more than once, but may only represent her state in the national Miss America competition one time.
