I think it would be easier on me to die suddenly, but harder on my family.
Being bed-ridden at least gives the family a chance to gather around and tell me goodbye.
I work in a hospital, not as a nurse or anything, but I do see family members gathered around a terminal patient and I would think it gives the patient (and the family) some comfort.

I would prefer to die suddenly rather than to be bed ridden for ages before dying. I don't want to die for a long while yet, thanks; I've too much left to experience.

Dying in bed at age 85 might not be too bad--if I were getting shot by a jealous husband. (Kidding--I don't mess with married women)

I would prefer to be torn apart and devoured by wild animals. Mr. Kitty has been practicing for this by biting my ankle when I walk past him.

I would like to die in my sleep, but if not, I'd like to die suddenly and not see it coming.

I am currently watching my Grandmother slowly die in hospice care and I never want to pass away like that.
