Mtv and music television has ruined music. it's made people concentrate more on their appearance than their actual music. when it was just radio, we would only be able to listen and we could truely appreciate peoples tallent, i.e. "vocal" talent. Now it's more about how they look rather than how they sound!

I find this really annoying and is probably the cause of all these crap groups/bands/artists who have no talent but look good. prime example is: Girls Aloud (can't sing for Toffee) !!

Who agrees, who disagrees, who do you think are guilty culprits?

I agree, no one even seems to care about talent anymore, and the kids get all this garbage crammed down their throats but it something they know about and therefore have in common so it doesn't go away. But I wish it would. MTV is partly why I got rid of cable. We do have the power to turn it off or block it, use that power and be strong enough to turn off the boob tube, and start talking to and spending time with our kids instead.

The 'image over talent' issue dates way back before MTV ever came about. Although I do think it amplified the problem ten-fold, groups from the sixties and seventies were very image oriented.

Here's a perfect example: The Monkees. Peter, Davey, Mike, and Mickey weren't even a band when they were assembled! Studio bigwigs put together this 'group' based on their looks and public appeal; it was only after popularity hit that they actually had to learn to play music.
Does Britney Spears suck? Absolutely! Is Beyonce talented? Hell no! Can Shakira sing well? NOT! But they're only the latest wannabe recruits in the media machines long list of future where-are-they-now flunkies. They ain't the first and they won't be the last.

I am a big fan of real rock music but because of most of the rubbish music I now watch more Hip-Hop because at least they make music they really believe in compared to manufactured rock.

a band has to look good as well as sing good the same as a car has to look good as well as drive good ,thats what sells...but yes lets form some good bands like QUEEN who looked brill and sounded brill and all the band members wrote songs for the group.songs these days are covers or remixed whatever clothes they throw on it's still sh** music

I completely agree, but what really gets me is that all these manufactured boy and girl "bands" only ever do covers with very little original material. Thank god Take That are back!!!
