I had a major and similar problem (I think) to yours.

Last week google stopped working for me. Whenever I tried to search google from the googlebar, or from the search bar in Firefox, it just returned a blank page. Even when I typed in "www.google.com" in the URL bar, it failed.

However, when entering google's IP address, I was able to access google and search all day long.

Many forums lead me to believe it was a DNS server error/problem. I spent time on the phone with my ISP to resolve to issue, but no success.

FINALLY, I came across some info today about the hosts file in Windows. . .there was a problem here, probably from some malware I removed from my system.

Check your hosts file in:

C\Windows\System32\Drivers\Etc

Open with Notepad

Below all the introductory text, it should have one line in it that says:

127.0.0.1 localhost

Any other lines will mean that that domain is being blocked, for example, in mine it read:

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 google.com
127.0.0.1 www.google.com
127.0.0.1 other website example
127.0.0.1 other website example

DELETE all the extra lines, leaving ONLY the first one:

127.0.0.1 localhost

Apparently you MUST leave at least that first line.

This worked 100% for me, I hope it also works for you.

Good luck!

It can be beacause you migh have blocked the google site from opening in security settings in internet options. OR your internet explorer is set to allow only pages that is in allow list. You have to put http://www.google.com/
https://www.google.com/accounts/ServiceLogin?service=mail&passive=true&rm=false&continue=http%3A%2F%2Fmail.google.com%2Fmail%3Fui%3Dhtml%26zy%3Dl in allowed list and then see if it works
