FedEx or UPS would be your best bet to ship your gear. Greyhound bus idea is good but they might not allow that since no person is on the bus to claim it incase of an emergency. Go with FedEx or UPS to handle it.

I have never shipped equipment before but you may want to ask some of your buddies if you can borrow some equipment or check the used sporting good stores such as Play It Again Sports.
You could also check in the New York papers or the papers where your parents live for ads with people willing to take people or items from point A to point B.
College and University students are always looking to make a few bucks. Maybe if you go to a campus you could find what you are looking for on the bulletin boards.
I am sure all of the above options will be cheaper than shipping your equipment. Good luck.

the best way to go is with the brown! UPS there are good with all ur stuff, i sent a 12 string gutiar, and it went home pretty safe. also i have sent abunch of stuff well over 40 pounds and it also had the same results. and just remember its hockey gear, whatever hits that is going to have to hit it hard considering the beatings it takes on ice. well bro from one hockey player to another good luck and have fun.

You can get a quote from UPS by putting in your hockey bag's dimensions and weight. I'd say for 40lbs, and being a huge bag, it would maybe be cheaper to buy the bag a 1-way greyhound bus ticket. Your parents can just load it in the luggage area, and you can be there when the bus arrives to pick it up.

Just tell them to throw it all in a box and ship it to you, I just did a quote real fast from ATL to NY for 45 pounds and it was $30.00 with UPS. We use them to ship a lot of stuff and everything has gone through good with no damages.

No such thing as cheap equipment. Usually on teams other then high level pro (AHL and NHL), the players provide their own.
