Was it because it would have been too much of an effort?

His topics & style are totally British - he barely mattered anywhere but UK, and what little he did was mainly because of the overall popularity of the British music. And he knows too many words for Anericans, that is the Dumbya/Madonna/Snoop country, baby - brains are banned. He had some truly awesome songs, though.

Paul Weller is quintessentially English. A lot of his music became political, a lot was cultural and I don't think the Yanks would have appreciated his genius. Never because of lack of effort...Paul Weller has reinvented himself so many times and with such enthusiam, he had the energy alright but not the inclination.

I agree that his music requires more than the usual amount of thought. That said though, not everything he produces is commercially viable. Maybe that is why?

He's too British....and besides, he's not exactly huge in his own country. Too much of a minority acquired taste.

Having said that...I like him.
