Well I'm white English so I suppose I am who you wanted to hear from!
I used to really enjoy the Bollywood blockbusters and older, more serious Indian films (by Satyajit Ray etc) when they where still generally thought of as being watched by Asian/ Asian-origin people only (1990's). However around the turn of the century they did start to become a little more mainstream and appeal to a much wider audience. I felt that Bollywood (if not film makers outside the main studio system) picked up on this and started to purposely try to attract a foreign audience which, for me, spoiled what Bollywood was all about.
It may just be the Indian films that are picked to be shown on television, but they seem to be shorter, less moralistic and have far less emphasis on music as a narrative device.
It looks like Bollywood films are now a little less fashionable than they where, so only the genuine "fans" are left to watch them (including those who started watching because it was fashionable) which I hope will help your film industry get back "on track" and I can start really enjoying Indian films again!
Wow I'm really going on about it, sorry!
PS: My favorite "Bollywood" film ever was Mahaboobha (sp?) which I think really encapsulates the genre! Let us know yours!

I'm a sikh fr M'sia who luv Hindi movies and am a fan of Akshay Kumar. M'sia is a multi cultural and lingual country but almost all of us no matter wat race and religion, luv hindi movies. Songs like Chalte Chalte (Old), Kabhi Kabhi and many more are famous with chinese, indian and malay guys to patao punjabi girls. If u go to a cinema hall for a Hindi movies, u'll find all the diff races watching it, never mind if they don't speak the language or understand it. The major complain will be the lenghty time and endless songs. If this aspect of the movie making is taken into consideration, i believe it will earn even more viewers

I am a white British working class female. And I LOVE world cinema as a whole and have been particularly impressed with Bollywood. I've always been aware that Bollywood is a lot bigger than Hollywood. I dont know if it would be classed as Bollywood, but my favourite film is a ghost story called Bhoot. I would really like to know more. I have always been a lot more impressed with foreign cinema than American cinema. The stories are so much better.

I actually love Bollywood movies. They seem to be truly made with more heart and soul than Hollywood. They are also more morally sound than Hollywood movies. I would feel safer letting my kids watch a Bollywood movie than nearly anything Hollywood puts out. There is rarely violence and I have yet to see one with any sex.
Keep up the great work Bollywood...you have a fan here. Just don't forget the subtitles for us English speaking idiots.

I can't get into the fantasy world and all of the singing, but I have seen more than a couple of Indian dramas that were excellent. I know it's cliche, but Monsoon Wedding was outstanding.
