It's fine for you to celebrate Kwanzaa. It's a celebration of family, earth, and spirit. But if you want to get in touch with your heritage, why not try learning about all of it? People of African descent have done many things to help mankind throughout time, much has been overlooked or skimmed over. Go to the library and check out the history....African American history books, not just the books about the Civil War and slavery, while an important phase, it's only a small part.

The Encyclopedia of African-American Heritage by Susan Altman is a good book for reference, and the Mis-Education of the ***** by G. Carter Woodson should be read by everyone of African American ancestry....actually is should be read by everyone!

Africa...continent. America...country. You're not both. You're an AMERICAN!!! Why celebrate something about your past heritage that doesn't really make a difference? If you do celebrate heritage, then let other Americans celebrate theirs and shut the hell up about a rebel flag. We're all on the same side now. You're not worse/better cuz you're black, you're equal cuz you're AMERICAN. Celebrate it if you want, and I'll know you're more proud of the African, not the American. Go ahead and live in the past.

Part meaning that your family lives in Africa?

There are no African Americans- if you were born in the USA- you are a black American.

I am half Cajun/Creole french- But I don't say I am Half/Creole.. I am a white American.

I was Born in the USA! I am American

as far as celebrating-- you do what makes you happy ((:
