They are good at hiding the hidden processed foods inside everything.... hidden cheese in the cheesburgers and sandwiches and sauce. Even in the tacos.... and pizzas.
You may see them putting yellow sauces that look like mustard on hotdogs while it might be gooey cheese sauce/ketchup sort of thing.
American cheese, cheese is a common processed cheese marketed by Kraft Foods, Borden, and other companies in the United States, and to some extent elsewhere.
It is orange, yellow, or white in color and mild in flavor, with a medium-firm consistency, and melts easily. It has traditionally been made from a blend of cheeses, most often Colby and Cheddar. Today's American cheese is generally no longer made from a blend of cheeses, but instead is manufactured from a set of ingredients which meets the legal definition of cheese and includes "whey protein concentrates" regularly imported from other countries.
The common use of the marketing label "American Cheese" for "processed cheese" combined with the prevalence of processed cheese in the U.S. compared to the rest of the world has led to the term American cheese being used in the United States synonymously in place of processed cheese.
Moreover, the term "American cheese" has a legal definition as a type of pasteurized process cheese under the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations.
I personally dislike processed cheese and prefer to opt for proper stuff. It's healthier too.

What on earth is a question about eating cheese doing in the politics category?
Some Yank described the French as "cheese eating surrender monkeys". One can only assume from such a remark that the fermented curd is held in contempt in some sections of US society.. So much the better - it means more cheese for us Brits and our French pals to eat.

Americans definitely eat cheese. I didn't realize how much cheese was added to all sorts of dishes and snacks until I met someone who cannot eat cheese. Some of the cheeses are a bit suspect IMO - the colors are weird, and they can be greasy. Some of the specialty cheeses are wonderful.

Americans eat cheese, but as a suppliment to another food item like adding cheese to a burger, to fries, to appetizers, etc. Not too many people eat cheese as an item by itself.

I would just like to say that I LOVE cheese (and I am American). My friends and I always have a cheese platter out with all sorts of interesting options whenever we have a get together. So, perhaps your question is way too generalized.

Ever heard of a Cheeseburger? Cheese fries? Macaroni and Cheese?
Americans eat a lot of cheese. They just don't eat cheese in the same way that Europeans generally do... they eat more processed cheese and cheese food products like Velveeta.

Well this what you won't find an American saying.
Kid: "Mom, I'm hungry"
Mom: "Want some cheese?"
Kid: "Sure!"
Mom: "Okay."
Cheese is Euro and Europe sucks.
If you are American and have euro cheese on your cheeseburger or grilled cheese then you are not cool. BUY AMERICAN CHEESE JUST DONT EAT IT PLAIN! OR YOULL GET SICK! But some Americans do eat cheese just plain.
