I first saw it on Channel 4, I think, quite a number of years ago and was enchanted by it. Just before Christmas last year (ie a few weeks ago) I was lucky enough to catch the fabulous specially adapted radio version on Radio 4 starring Desmond Olivier Dingle and Raymond. It brought back so many memories I would love to be able to see the play again as I remember that the two actors, I think originally Patrick Barlow (Desmond)and Robert Austin (Bernard), mesmerised me with their humour and poignancy. Can anyone guide me in the right direction please? I don't mind which actors were part of the company at the time of recording as I know that all have been first rate (including the sainted Jim Broadbent I believe).

JT...you have helped a bit so far, thanks. I now know the play was originally called "The Messiah" (1984). Being a mere mortal and between jobs I could never afford to book them!!! but I promise to share if I find the Holy Grail. Come on Patrick Barlow, you must know something, if you please. Best wishes to the curious chickens and other beasts.

Sorry if this comes out twice as I thought I had already done it but it disappeared... - thanks Jt. I now know the play, back in 1984, was entitled "The Messiah". As for booking them, dear boy(?) - I am a mere mortal between jobs but will share with you if I get what I am looking for. It is even funnier than you assume. Come on Barlow and co. help is needed. Love to rough hewn chickens and other beasts from a fan.
