Without proportional representation democracy is a farce - In modern democracy multi-party system is there to exist.
But voting in democracies where there is no arrangements for proportional representation of the contenting political parties, the exercise is reduced to a farce! Lets see why.
It is also a universal phenomenon that in most mature democracies around 60% polling of legitimate votes take place.
Now, suppose A, B and C are the contending parties in a constituency. B gets 28% and C 32% then A gets 40% of the votes polled and is declared the winner. But actually A gets 40% of 60% votes or 24% votes only to be the winner! Thus, even if 100-24 = 76% are against or not supporting a candidate he/she can be a winner in our democracy. This thing must change. If the contenders are more even the winner may get lesser votes.
Therefore, there is an urgent need to bring in proportional representation system in Indian democracy.

Unfortunately, we do not have a section on our ballots where we can vote for "none of the above." The suggestion is to vote for the one you consider the smaller evil.

We all we would be a lot better if we had some kind of publicly funded elections. Then we would have considerably better choice of candidates, Of course, no system is perfect, but then you would have a better chance to elect the candidate that truly represents you, not the one who has more money to "buy" his/her seat in whatever area the candidate wants to be elected.

The only possible thing we can do is to alter the term of 5years to 2years and strict norms for the candidates.
The candidate should have clean record, they must be educated and they should publish the work done and not done in last 5 years in row, whether in politics or outside politics.
And while in power the elected candidate should publish their achievement in media not as self advertisement but as accountability. The task should mainly cover four aspects
1-Time frame
2-Quality ratio,
3-Budget, &
4-Current status. on a monthly basis.

No my dear friend, your point of view is totally pessimistic. You have the power to elect or de-elect anybody. You will vote to the right person. If somebody u voted hasn't been able to do anything then next time u will not vote him right? Be patient, it will take time but our intelligent pupil will find themselves out of this mess. You are on the way to become a SUPER-POWER.

I vote based on the issues that matter most. To me it's taxes, judges, attacking terrorists, and national defense. Those are the most important to me. I decide based on that.
