How do I leave this job for a better one?

I have been working fulltime evenings and weekends at a job I hate for almost two years now. I have a degree, good references, a solid work history, and I have had several interviews with potential jobs, but I can't seem to get hired anywhere, even after applying for positions that are for less money and have no degree requirement. I can't afford to just quit my job, because I have bills to pay, and dependents to care for. There has been rumors that the place I work keeps people there by sabotaging their resumes, though I have not seen it done myself. If I don't leave this job soon, I am going to go insane! Any advice is welcome. Thank you.

there has to be a reason why you aren't gettign anywhere with the interviews? One thing, Make sure you do not say anything negative about the current job in the interview. It is okay if it is a past job, that you left, but not a current job. 2 make sure you are dressed to the nines for the interview, tie, pressed shirt and pants, jacket if you have one. Show up impressive and you will be impressive. Yahoo hot jobs website has all sorts of interview tips. I recommend reading through them. They will help you avoid the pitfalls. Sell yourself in the interview. State your benifits. Do not ever talk about your negatives. When asked what you can improve on, take a positive and spin it. My positive/negative is that I get impatient with people that refuse to learn their job and do it correctly. I feel that if I have shown the job and watched them do it, that they should be able to do it on their own. Stretch the levels of reality on your resume. If you ever made the honor roll in high school, then you graduated with honors. If you have ever scored in the above 90% on a final exam for a training class, then you graduated the course in the top of the class. These are things an interviewer may ask you about, but will never research. Have a list of personal references. If you do not want them to contact your current job, then state it. Tell them you would prefer not to have any attention brought to your job search with the current employer. If you want to send me a copy of your resume I can give you advice on it.

Since you have been on interviews I would say that your resume must be decent enough to get you the interview which is what the resumes job is. Sounds to me that you are not sealing the deal on your interview. Make sure you look and sound professional. Wear a nice suit, don't where any body piercings/jewlery. Don't die your hair another color. Don't talk to much, you might sounds like a fool. Be very polite and personable. Act like you know what your doing and that you are a great fit for the position. Mastering an interview can make you or break you.
