in spacetime diagrams the worldline for light is the 45degree line.
And all event possible must lie within this line....

if you were asked to explain what this line means how would you?

Understanding that the world line is represented as a 45 degree line is due to rescaling of the speed of light so that c=1, the explanation is simple: In order to get outside of the envelope with boundaries the two lines with 45 and -45 degree angles ( this is just the one dimensional case) your world line would have to have a slope greater then 1--otherwise you would have to move faster then the speed of light.
