that depends on many factors like what kind of life style do you follow? Do you indulge yourself in mnay parties on the weekends or someother activites that are expensive on the hoildays. If you don't do those stuff, you can reduce your cost of living by considerable amount. As far as Phd goes, I am sure if you are accepted to any Universitry in US you would get some scholarships too. So partly might be given off. Some you can make up by working on the campus as a teaching Assistant(TA). But still you would need about $8000 to $9000 for one year. This amount would be good if you follow a very simple living. Hope that helps and good luck with Phd!!

Depends where you go.

You might be able to work for the university at the same time, offseting the costs.

I would gage up to 20k a year for tuition and very basic living expenses. With the rest of your family it will cost more, of course, which is up to you to estimate.
Penn State University has a physics pHD program with graduate housing on campus. Many of the candidates are married with children.

www.studyusa.com this website would be of great help to you. it gives you links to the universities which offer the PHD program you want. it provides you with the websites of the universities and you would see how tutition would cost at each university in your situation. it also gives you information on what to do and what do you need for applications, tutition fees estimation, and other things.

If you found it expensive try canada or australlia, their universities provide excellent programs as US for less money.
