Find the right video card driver for your laptop.

Sounds like you are using a 'standard' one that doesn't match the resolution of your laptop's real screen.

Alternatively, can you set your screen size to match the real screen size of your laptop if you've alreadygot the right driver. Maybe you've got a 1280x768 panel and got it set to 1024x768 resolution?
