You are past the first trimester which is when most problems occur if they are going to. At least register for items at a baby store, so that your friends know what to get you! Most of all, don't worry about luck! Congratulations on your new little one!

I am 37 weeks now, with my second, and both times I just waited til after my baby shower to shop, so I knew what I needed. But 36 or 37 weeks is just right, if you've already had your shower, you should have it within the next month or less if possible. Some babies come early! How would you like to bring a baby home and have no stroller, bottles, breast pump, safe bedding, diapers or clothes for you new baby. You need to make a registry of what you want immediately and make sure you put where you are registered in your invitations. Don't be afraid to take stuff back that people have given you if you don't need it. You can use the money to get stuff you need. As long as you know where it came from and haven't damaged the packaging, most places will let you exchange items with or without a reciept. I had way too many newborn clothes and no 6 month clothes when my daughter was born and didn't take any of it back. She was born 8.5 pounds and all those clothes never even got worn! I sure could have used that money to get her something she could wear! Good luck with your baby.

Im almost 23 weeks pregnant. I havent started the baby's room yet. I haven't really bought anything either because a) I also know what its like to miscarry and the pain to see it everywhere in your home. b) People give you a lot of stuff when you have a baby. If you wait a while, you could end up with everything you need and then buy very little. I have been given a crib, stroller, bassinet, carseat, clothes, diapers, formula and blankets already. (all new or practically new) c) the baby doesnt go into his or her room right away. Likely he will sleep in your room for the first few months or even longer in a bassinet or playard. Only then will he graduate to his room...thats whats most common anyway. Im dying to do it because Im just like you but Im trying to hold back. We just found out its a boy so that will help with decor choices, but we also want to take our time picking out the right stuff. Its up to you really, its whenever you are comfortable. But to be safe, at least wait until 14-16 weeks. EDIT: Also the reason I say 14 weeks and not 12 is just for safety. When I was 12 weeks pregnant I thought "score! The danger is over!" and a week later I was rushing to the birth center with bleeding. It was very scary but it passed and now Im fine. Just wait until you are confident you are well out of the first trimester danger zone.

It's just stupid superstision that you shouldn't shop for baby stuff until right at the end. By then you will be huge and exhausted, and just want to sit on the sofa, not trapse around the shops!
37 weeks is full term. Your baby could easily be born then and be totally healthy and ready to go home straight away. In which case, you will go home with your new baby and have absolutely nothing - what a nightmare!

It's not bad luck. I once bought some baby things even before I was pregnant, just because I was really in the mood. If it upsets your mom, either don't tell her about it or don't do it. It's just a little longer to wait. But it might be good to let her know that that's why you're waiting. Also, you do want to get things done while you still have the energy and desire to do them. You might put off getting some things that you may get as shower gifts. Just try to be happy and peaceful while you are building your baby.

You are in your last trimester, I would definitely be buying things now - especially if your pregnancy has been uncomplicated. Many women go into labor early, so it's better to be prepared than to bring a baby home with nothing. You can always leave the tags on everything and then when you go in the hospital, let your mother take the tags off and wash everything for you.
If it was such bad luck to buy things before the baby is born, then why are baby showers so popular?
Best wishes for a healthy and happy baby!!

I think it's worse luck to be unprepared for your baby and try to hobble around the stores for diapers and other things. I told myself I would start shopping around then, especially for a car seat, which you will need to bring the baby home from the hospital. Diapers will be extremely necessary, as will a place for the baby to sleep, and formula if you are not breastfeeding. Unless you have family around to help you out with the shopping after the birth, I would start buying a few things at a time. It is also easier on your finances since you won't have one huge bill all at once, which can be overwhelming after just having a baby.

If it makes you feel better (more prepared) I'd go ahead and pick up just a couple infant gowns to have at home and maybe a pack of diapers. I'd just leave the tags on in case you want to exchange them. Really, you'll get TONS of stuff at the shower and then you can assess what you really need. Also, newborns are in their gowns practically every day because they are the easiest for diaper changes and they keep the baby comfy and warm. But, if you want to have the fun of picking out a couple gowns, go ahead, I say. You don't have to tell your mother and when she wants to shop for you at 36 weeks, enjoy that too! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

i waited till i had a baby shower which because of the holidays wasnt until i was 38 weeks.i was so scared i would have my baby early and not have a thing!31 weeks is a great time to buy things.at least a couple of outfits and some diapers.plus its your baby and if you want to buy something then go right on ahead!plus what if you go into labor at 38 weeks?that is considered full term so they would let you have the baby!being prepared is the best thing to do when a new baby is on the way!good luck!

There is no reason not to start shopping for baby stuff now. It's absolutely ridiculous to think that it's "bad luck" to start shopping early. I had most of my shopping done by the time I was 30 weeks.
That being said, you don't HAVE to start shopping until you're ready, but you don't HAVE to wait, either. Nothing bad is going to happen just because you're prepared.
If you wait too long, you may not be able to shop. You could wind up on bedrest like I did, you could go into labor early, or you might just be too tired and swollen to go shopping.
