Yes your body is already preparing itself for the extra weight you have to carry don't add anymore to it. Bending and lifting heavy objects will cause you to strain your body even more and evenutally leads to a miscarriage if you are not careful.

Lifting heavy things has more of an effect on you than your baby. With my first pregnancy, the hubby and I has just moved and being the stubborn person that I am, I was lifting heavy book boxes on my own and moving furnitures around towards the end of my 2nd trimester. I was just fine!

My OB told me that lifting things doesn't harm the baby (unless you have a condition that your doctor tells you not to lift heavy things). What it does harm is yourself. During pregnancy, the joints and ligaments and tendons in your body loosens so it's very easy for you to hurt your back. And if you do hurt your back in a bad way, you'll be pretty much stuck because since you're pregnant doctors will be limited in what kind of pain meds they can give you.

As always check with your doctor to make sure you and the baby are in good health.

You are receiving a lot of uninformed answers that are assumptions rather than being based on any actual medical research. The likelihood of you tearing your uterus is slim to none unless you are doing something ridiculous. What doctors will tell you is you can do no more than you were capable of doing before the pregnancy. So if you could lift no more than 20 lbs before and feel comfortable then don't try to life 25 lbs once you are pregnant. It all depends on you and your fitness level. You have to listen to your body and what it is telling you as you progress in your pregnancy the amount you want to be lifting will probably become less and less because you will have limitations (your belly is so big your arms have to stretch out to lift anything up). As for the bending you can continue to do so if you are doing it properly. Unfortunately most of us bend at our center to lift objects off the ground when really we should bend at the knees. If you use proper lifting procedures you will be fine. If ever your body is hurting or you feel as if you are straining then you should back off and lessen the load. Continuing to be active is actually beneficial to you and your child; it can help with the birthing process and with weight gain. So early on before you begin you blow up like a balloon you should have no problems continuing to lift objects that are in your ability range.

I am pregnant with my 3rd child and do not feel nearly as physically fit or comfortable as I did with my first two. Although I do find myself lifting my children and doing some walking etc ... I am not doing nearly as much as I did with my first two because I am no longer working. With my first I was working full time as an Appliance Sales Associate in a working warehouse I was lifting constantly through out my pregnancy. Early on I did no more no less than I did before I was pregnant and as I started to get big 6-7 months, I physically couldn't lift as much because I couldn't pull objects close to my body anymore so my load did lessen. With my second pregnancy I worked part time and again did the same things. I was lifting over the range microwaves, team lifting washers, dryers, moving refrigerators.

Most important thing is to listen to your body and what it is telling you, you will know if you are doing too much and rather than pushing through it stop and get some help. But stopping all lifting activity during pregnancy is definitely not necessary. I have had very healthy pregnancies and births and fast recovery times even though I gained 45 lbs with my pregnancies.

Speak with you doctor at your next appointment and as long as you are healthy you should be find.

I read this as two questions: What effect does bending and lifting heavy stuff during pregnancy have on the baby? ANSWER: It is not good. You can cause damage to the uterus or placenta due to muscular constriction and exhaustion. Plus the nutrients that should be feeding the baby can be used up by the mother's body during the exertion. Question 2 apparently is: What effect does bending and lifting heavy stuff during pregnancy have on the doe? ANSWER: Deer lack thumbs and seldom are able to lift much. However, much of the same nutritional concerns exist, especially in the winter months when does may not be able to locate enough nutritious food. If you are calling a pregnant woman a "doe" you probably have more issues than worrying about bending and lifting, though.

Nothing, you baby is very well protected. I bend over all the time during the day to clean up and to pick up my son who is 16 months old and my baby is still completely healthy and doing great.

The risk of lifting heavy objects while pregnant is basically only to the mom. Your growing belly changes your centre of balance and all your joints are loose, which makes them more likely to be injured.

However problems with the lower back and hips can effect birth, so take care of yourself!

The basic limit on lifting is 25 pounds, but I lifted far more than that during my pregnancy, and I didn't have any problems because of it. It's almost impossible to tear your uterus that way.

The main things to watch for are back strain, loss of balance causing you to fall, and premature labor. Anytime you do any kind of physical activity, your uterus may start to contract, so take it easy.

If you have any complications with your pregnancy, you need to ask your doctor before you do ANY kind of physical activity.

actually my doctor told me that for a normal pregnant women there is no weight restrictions, obviously you shouldnt over do it and insted of lifting with your stomach lift with your knees, but with someone like me who has an incompitant cervix and has a stitch in there cervix they should not be lifting things heavier than 10 lbs. if you arent sure you should ask your doctors, all doctors have different opinions on what their patients can and cant do. good luck.

Lifting heavy stuff can cause a miscarriage. The bending will just cause your lower back more discomfort. Pregnancy will cause lower back pain, so anything you can do to prevent anymore discomfort, the better.
