The point of and Essay is different from a book report. To write an essay, you can't just quote facts or even someone elses opinion. YOU have to form an opinion of your own and express it. That's what an essay is. Your essay must come from you.
So you have to think about the topic until you feel something relevant. Then you research that thing until you form an opinion. Then you write what you learned, from what you may have thought at first to what you learned and how it may have changed your opinion.
