advertising costs money..TV and newspaper ads...not to mention those annoying signs posted every 100 feet....top that off with the advisors and managers...it adds up...it seems kind of shady that people would spend millions of dollars for a job who's tenure doesn't pay half of what they spent...It is either a power thing or a corruption thing...If I had that type of money I don't think I would want to spend it on trying to get a (relatively) low paying job

It's not that much; Hillary Clinto is planning on raising about $100M, and Biden is looking for only about $20M. Still alot of money. It's mostly the cost of TV ads The cost of production plus the cost of airtime), rent for local offices, surveys, phone banks, and travel expenses. National presidential campaigns require you to have an organization of people in each state, plus a travelling group of people moving from state to state with the candidate. Plus, you have to do all this for for the year leading up to your party's primaries, then do it all over again for the year leading up to the actual Presidential election.

Get involved in a campaign you believe in and find out. Printing, TV and radio time, travel costs, office and staff expenses, my fingers don't have the endurance to type everything out.

Everything is relative. Contributors consider the money donated as an investment in their future.
