Sounds like your cursor is in Overtype mode. Hit the "Insert" key on your keyboard. (It's the key to the right of the backspace key, to the left of the "Home" key.) If that doesn't change it, then the cursor is locked in by the program and you likely can't change it.

hi Margaret,
i wish ur well and not thinking about ur daily problems.
now i have come to know that u have got a problem with ur cursor that is thicken when u try to type something.I know how to solve it--just press the 'insert ' labeled key from ur keyboard after reading my letter.

press insert switch on keyboard when it's dark black box
it shows that it's going to write over ur existing text
