You'd have to go to umpire school - a buddy of mine went to one in Texas (i think or Arizona). He said it was really rigorous.

Start off by umping little league games. This is the best way to gain experience. Once you feel you are ready move up, start doing some older leagues. If you like umping, then try to go to Umpire school. Just be aware that most umpires never make it to MLB and if you were to make it, It would take about fifteen years in the minors.

I've been a baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball umpire(referee) for 17 years. This is a great thing to get into, besides still being around the game I get paid to do something I love.I would suggest you contact a high-school in your area and ask them where they hire there officials from, then contact those people. There is a open book test you will have to take to get certified to do high-school sports, usually the local organizations have a mechanics clinics you have to attent for 3 years. This is a good choice of jobs as I bring in over 25 g's a year doing something I love (good luck)

Well, there are schools for it and that is the only way you can get there, and don't count on a short stay, it takes a while, then you have to scrape your way up the ladder...(ever notice how old the pro ones are)...??....you can get the names of the schoools on line, definately have to go though...good luck...

also helps to have good eyes and obviously know the rule book..
