Desktops vs Laptops is a long running debate, but here are some pointers that may help. Laptops benefit from being smaller and more portable obviously, and if you want to use your machine on the go, a laptop is probably a good choice. Desktops are usually bulkier and take up more space, plus it's kinda impractical to move them around too much. However, upgrading a laptop is not easy. They only usually have space for one hard disk, so if you run out of storage space you will have to replace the whole drive, whereas with a PC you can install an extra one. Also, if you want to upgrade the processor in say six months time, you may find that it's not possible, whereas with a PC (provided its a fairly generic manufacturer), you can simply rip out the main board and fit a different one. Having said all that, I would always go for a desktop for one really big reason. If your monitor blows up on your desktop, you can simply buy a new one, which may cost you between £50 - £250 depending on how good and big it is. If you crack your laptop screen, quite often the cost of replacement is more expensive than the current value of the laptop. Sure you can plug in an external screen, but that defeats the purpose. Laptops are more likely to get damaged as well, simply by virtue of the fact you are carrying them around and moving them. In short, a laptop is less upgradable, more fragile and more expensive in general to repair, but, is the more portable solution. Oh, and as for security, the security of the machine is down to how you set up the software there isn't really a difference between desktops and laptops, as if someone is determined enough, they will get in no matter what you have. Hope that helps :) IT@Tonicweb.co.uk

It all depends on your use.
Laptops are for mobility, not for processing. If you want to play games, then a desktop is the best bet. If you travel a lot, then a laptop would be nice with some GPS software.
Word processing you could go either way.
Laptops are very fragile machines and typically last less than 1/3 of the life of a desktop. The mother boards run hotter and burn out quicker. Laptop screens are much more fragile than a desktop which means you could easily burn out a few pixels every now and then.

yes they are very sensitive, its not like a desktop that you can fix your self lots of parts, its more fragile, especialy while traveling ETC. so if you dont need the portability I think a desktop is better, also in terms of adding features in the hard drive its usualy more convinient in a desktop, please don't forget to vote for the best answer

laptops are very durable, long lasting and highly techonologically advanced.they are much better than desktops, and they come fully fitted with all functions, USB ports, etc. and once you get used to it, you wont want to go back to using your regular PC.
...and they mobile! lol

Unless you thrown them around - laptops are pretty tough. It is great to be able to take it anywhere you go!
