I know life can be very tough as well but isn't it better to be happy with your lot and try to improve things for yourself than just be miserable and moan all the time?

yes it is better to be happy with what you have and try to make things that aren't good better for you and if you are in an unhappy relationship get out, and follow your dream and find that special person, that you want to be in your life forever.

I live in a stressful world, both at work and at home. I am not happy unless I feel stressed out, miserable and ready to chew someone's head off. It's what makes the world go round. We all can't be happy-go-lucky, stop and smell the flowers type of people. That'd get sickening after awhile.

life is short as it is true. But people are miserable, because they don't have the spirit of God in them , they look to man to solve their problem instead of God, the creator of heaven and the heavens and earth that we live on, the creator is the answer to all happiness, we cannot do things for ourselves, it is the creator that rule the world that do these things, he is the one we must look to and ask him to use us, that we be good to others so we can find happiness it is what you do for others that make you happy

Perhaps these people have tried to improve things and have made their lives even worse. That would depress anyone after a time.

Bemoaning one's lot seldom gets anything done unless it is constructive complaining. However, there are people out there who, for clinical reasons like depression (etc.) can't just adjust their emotions with a simple act of will.

I think you must be a natural optimistic. Not every one is, some people are genetically wired to experience depression. Telling them to cheer up is like saying unicorns exist.

Being comfortable seldom equals being satisfied, but it's easier to be comfortable than to make effort.

People avoid solving problems to satisfy their need of immediate comfort. This however leads to misery, as problems will occur again and again until solved. Hence most people live in misery due to their own lack of action, which is due to their own choice of avoiding to solve problems.

People are over-worked, under-paid, sleep deprived, lonely, unappreciated, emotionally abused, no one to trust and no one to turn to for help. People are just plain tired. It's hard to be happy with all that....
