Men do not ask for directions, drive around aimlessly!!!

How long does it take for a bloke to admit defat and call the breakdown services out? And when they turn up do they get the same line off a bloke...I can imagine it to be 'I've had a look...'

Just thought about it!

Well at the end of the day men pay for the breakdown cover, its silly to be embarassed to use it but i can definitely see what you mean.

It's all about vulnerability. To a man, OK, many if not most men, asking directions feels like he's putting himself in a defenseless, vulnerable position. It's probably some lizard-brain instinct to avoid that situation at all costs. i.e. if you ask that caveman where the nearest water is, he might lead you into a trap and kill you. Sure, it doesn't make sense in todays world...or does it?

As for car repairs, the same feelings apply. A man does not want to put himself in a defenseless position. Admitting he can't protect his family because he doesn't know how to repair his spear is like telling the whole tribe to come and rape his woman and steal his children. So we're only trying to protect you!

Saying, "I've had a look..." implies that he has some knowledge of car (or spear) repair, but this particular issue is just barely beyond his range of ability. That's why you'll also hear, "If you can just show me how this works, I can figure out the rest."

Funny but I have only been lost once, in a steady lane, a strange small town. On top of it there was some sort of festivity going on. I finally found someone not walking and asked how to get to the high street and thus find my way back to the m.
Before, I had taken off in the right direction and wound up miles away in the wrong direction.
In the cold, windy, wet November night, I was more relieved than embarassed.
So on occasion we males will break down and ask. It is rare, though.

Have you any real data to support your claim that men do not ask for directions, or is that just an idea you've absorbed from popular culture.

I am a man, and I ask for directions, so the idea is not universally applicable.

May I suggest that you read "Spreading Misandry," by Katherine Young and Paul Nathanson?

They will not give up and call a mechanic until the engine is all in pieces from their tinkering, and will cost twice what it would have cost to fix if they had called right away.

I agree about directions, they never want to give in and ask, I'll ask straight away.

Personally I'll call a friend to tow rather than breakdown service.

Your question is??
