A tattoo/piercing parlor that includes a gift shop that sells handmade jewelry made from natural rocks, bone, and shells, and a great new clothing line that features artwork by incarcerated artists? I design and make all the jewelry myself. I have been around the retail gift and clothing business my whole life. My grandfather started a western clothing manufacturing business in 1935. Then sometime in the 1950's his daughter and her husband, my grandparents, opened a retail store selling the clothing they manufactured and other miscellaneous gifts. The manufacturing business was in operation for 70 years until my grandfather decided to retire and the family sold everything. I also have a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. So, I know business. Do you think my idea would fly or flop? Please give me some feedback and any ideas you might have. Thanks, ahead of time, to all who answer.

I think that no matter what people think or have said negatively to you about this venture if your heart is in it you can make it into anything you want and with that desire it can be very profitable.
Good luck and I wish you the best.

A tattoo/piercing parlor is one of the most difficult businesses to start. It depends on where you live, your competition, and how much money you're willing to throw away on marketing this thing. And I say "throw away" because that is what you'll be doing initially.
Selling by-products on the side won't make up for the loss. Even on an incredibly crowded place where people get tattoos/piercings all the time, your rent, employees, fees, etc., will not leave much/if any room for profit.
You have a good idea. But you MUST be sure it will succeed and have a CLEAR PLAN to make it happen.
So to answer your question, at least at this moment and give what I've read from you, I think this idea would flop.
Sorry.
Here are some suggestions for you to reconsider. Maybe you pick one and put that to work instead.
Good luck!

READY FOR A REAL ANSWER???
Business ideas cannot succeed or flop...it's the marketing that matters.
When I talk to a person about opening a business I never even need to know what the product/service is...all I need to do is ask them "What is your marketing plan" and that says it all because no business has self-marketing.
You can pick just about any business under the sun and make it work if there's a credible marketing plan. You don't have one.
In fact you don't even have a business idea...what you have is a store where you have things YOU like all together in one store...why...do people care that they're all in one store? (like people DO care about that with food...hence a supermarket works).
You have a "bachelor's degree in Business Administration. So, I know business."
Well sorry but apparently not. Why would a person who "knows business" post such a question? You like to pretend you know business but what you know is just academic. I have great confidence that learning how to think about these real-world marketing problems was NOT part of the curriculum.
How do I know? Because I talk to people like you every day...even with Wharton Masters' and they often don't get it.
Am I being a jerk? Good...I'm also being damn honest and I hope to save you about $50,000 while you think, re-think, and 10x more think about this because you need to have it detailed about 10x more than you presently believe.
But then again you know business, right?

You have the basics - now you need to know if anyone wants what you want to sell?
Do a bit of market research and find out where your market is and how big it is. Work out the best place for your business and the prices that the market will bear.
Then produce a detailed business plan.
Good Luck

yes it is a sound idea the only problem u may have is start up capital.remember you need enough cash for employees ,rent inventory etc. you have a unique idea but before you go head in try selling your products at flea markets ,talk to local business to see if the would be interested in selling your products i.e. record stores, gas stations etc. remember you r entering a local market,so this will give you a chance to see how your products sell without making any huge financial obligations.

It totally depends on where you are located.
And as popular as tattoos are now, and if your other items were very cool, it could do real well.
Good luck and get a good accountant!

I'm starting one as well so you should pick a name, pick a location, create inventory, hire employees and find vendors.
