Quite a lot of women on this site claim that they got pregnant on the pill. Well, it is 99.5% effective BUT. And this is a big BUT. What some of these women fail to realise is that either by missing just one pill or taking it a lot later when they are supposed to, or taking antibiotics, or being sick/diarrhoea, any some other herbal remedies they are increasing their chances to get pregnant and not only that one day but for the next 7 days too! So for example, if you have to take antibiotics for 5 days, then you need to wait 7 days after the last day of your antibiotics before the pill will start working again (so in effect, you have no contraceptive protection from the pill for 12 days!!!). The same goes for things like diarrhoea or other problems. I mean 12 days or even just 7 days if you took a pill a few hours later than needed can mean that you are gonna get pregnant because the pill has no affect at all. If taken correctly and all these things are taken into account, you can be more or less 100% sure that it is the best method other than surgical procedures.

there are 2 types of pill ive exsplained here what they both do and how effective they are.
The commonest pill taken is the combined oral contraceptive pill, containing both oestrogen and a progesterone. If this is taken properly the failure rate is very low - about 0.2 per cent per year.
The progestogen-only pill (POP) or mini-Pill has a higher failure rate of between 2 and 8 per cent per year.
Even if the instructions are strictly adhered to, there are other reasons why failure may occur.
If a pill is forgotten, it should be taken within 12 hours (three hours for the 'mini-Pill'), but if the interval is longer than this then it is advisable to take other precautions such as a barrier method for the next seven days.
As you can see, timing is much more critical with the progestogen-only pill than with the combined pill.
Other reasons for failure include:
a stomach upset such as nausea and vomiting, when the Pill may not be properly absorbed into the system.
interaction with other drugs. Anti-epileptic drugs such as phenobarbitone and phenytoin and carbamazapine, griseofulvin (for fungal infections) and some broad spectrum antibiotics can all interfere with the efficacy of the combined contraceptive pill.
and remember always use a condom as the pill does not protect you from std's

Everyone else has given you the statistical info so all i will say is that i've been on it for 4 and a half years and it has been fully successful so far :)
I take it regularly every day when i wake up... the time I take it varies over maybe 5 hours or so..sometimes a bit longer..
I have forgotten a few here and there in the past and luckily the pill has still worked. Also there are a lot of women on here who say they have gotten pregnant on the pill but personally... I do not know of any..
hope this, combined with the info from everyone else, helps :)
Take care :)

The combined pill is 99% effective as long as you start the programme at the correct time. Sickness and diahorrea can affect this though so you do need to understand the ins and outs but your GP should explain all this to you.

It's 99% effective if taken correctly, the drug companies are working on the formula to lessen the number of horomones, this decreases the effectiveness by about 1%. But it also makes it safer to take.

its 99%relaible...the effects of the pill may be affected by vomitting/diorhea and taking other antibiotics..my advice is if you are on antibiotics use a condom for seven days, keep doing so until your antibiotic course is over.
