All that is important is that the child is warm and clean.

Children can't read brands.

I will say I buy the best I can afford, because clothes from shops like marks & spencer do wash better and hold their shape better, so in long run are cheaper. But I wait for sale.

If you shop retail yes. Brand names retail are much more expensive than say Target or Walmart. But, I went to some really great shops and just shopped clearance for those 40 weeks. And, I got such great deals! I always like shopping a season ahead - it's much cheaper on the pocket and you get to dress your baby really cute.

Also, check out ebay. If you don't mind used clothing - like maybe worn two or three times. A lot of people take really good care of their stuff. I just bought a $200 outfit (outfit, blankiet, bow, socks, shoes, bib and hat) for $60. It was brand new without tags. It was one of these woman from California who buy boutique stuff and let it sit in the back of their closet. I can't imagine that...but the $60 is this baby's Christening outfit. Which is a stellar deal!

Also, the same goes for baby furniture. We found the best baby furniture at a local baby store not Target or Walmart. They seemed really flimsy and we were afraid they wouldn't stand up to a toddler pulling on them. The crib and changing table (that has drawers and can be used as a chest of drawers later) were almost $2,000. But, we did have a lay a way plan were we paid half up front and half when the order came.

Also, outlets are the way to go if you can find one near you. I got all my onesies at the Carter outlet. They were only $5 for a pack of 8. Later I wished I had bought more. Also, I have a Children's Place outlet and a gap outlet close by. The sales aren't that great but the clearance is super.

Yes, sometimes. I always buy diapers at Target because they're like five bucks cheaper than name brand ones and work just as well. I find lots of clothes for my son there, too. In the first few years babies grow so fast that it's worth it to find a used children's shop. There are several in my area and the clothes are usually really nice still, because how much abuse can they take if a kid only wears it a few times before he outgrows it, you know? It's just like anything else you'd buy, shop around a little first.I would say, if you're planning on bottlefeeding, at all, even pumping milk first, I'd invest in some good bottles. I loved the avent ones and was told they're pretty good for nursing moms so babies don't get confused or overwhelmed by the switch. You can by all brand name stuff but you'll quickly realize you didn't need to, especially if money's an issue. As long as stuff is clean and safe, go for it.

It depends on where you shop, I think. For instance, Walmart has affordable baby clothes that really aren't that expensive and while the material might not be the softest in the world, washing them usually makes them a bit gentler against baby's skin. After washing them 3-4 times, they'll be perfect. Some expensive baby clothes are impractical and mostly to ornament the child, so I say just look for what you think is the best for the baby, feeling the material and checking the stitching as well as looking at the price tag.

Just like everything else you buy, shop around first! You might think you need the Bugaboo, but while you are looking for a better deal, you might see something you prefer. (I always find I see something better after I've bought something!) Shops own brands can be just as good, and are usually much cheaper than the comparable branded equivalent. This would apply to all baby things - prams/pushchairs/strollers, clothes, furniture, feeding stuff, nappies. Shop around while you can still face it!

I also suggest you speak to other mums about their experiences - if you see a mum at the bus stop, I'm sure she'd be pleased to tell you how she finds the Bugaboo, and what she wishes she'd known before she bought it!

Yes of course just like adult items. For example for clothes some are expensive and branded, some are very cheap, and you can even get cheaper clothes if you buy them used or get them from friends who had babies... tiny baby clothes don't have time to wear out so they can be used on more than one baby.

I like quality clothing, but I mainly shop for fit. I like clothes that fit really nicely. I find that Silver Tab are the jeans that fit me best. For some reason clothes from Wal-Mart don't fit right. Thus making me uncomfortable when I wear them. I have a hard time finding shirts because I am tall so that is always a challange.

Yup, but babies outgrow there clothes quickly. Try end of season sales, at like Jcpennys and my favorite the children place. Especially if you live near an outlet center that has a childrens place. You can get alot of bang for your buck. Good luck and Congrats!

Of course it will make a difference! Buy what you can afford - infants wear their clothes for such a short time. Try resale stores, eBay, and sales. Penneys has great sales at the end of a season, for example. You just have to be careful to buy the size you'll need for your child for a particular season. Enjoy!
