..now, the keyboard and monitor will not go on.....I checked the plugs and connections. Monitor does the self-test no prob. The D drive WANTS to open, it tries, but cannot.

It sounds like, from all the random failures that you are having a motherboard issue. What do you mean D drive tries to open but fails? You mean the tray itself on the optical drive, can you hear the motor/ or just see the light is blinking to get your conlusion? If boot process doesn't complete keyboard will not come on anyways.. A little more details would help, for each failure..

Click start, then my computer, then click on the drive you want, and open. This works for me. Hope this helps. You might also have a bad keyboard or monitor cable. Try replacing it if you have another.

Have you had any storms/power outages in your area recently? Its possible your motherboard got fried a little bit.
