Steely Dan ARE -- not were -- a very talented group of former studio musicians that put out some great tunes in the 70's that were huge radio hits. They were rather mysterious at the time as they never played live shows. The band has begun live performances just in recent years and STILL ROCKS. I recommend "Can't Buy A Thrill" the song "Dirty Work" is my favorite. I'd be happy to share it with you if you are interested in having a listen. peace, love & music - "not chey"

Oh, child.....

Steely Dan was a duo (Walter Becker and Donald Fagen) that rocked the '70's, and they're still doing it today. Yes, they are very good, although if you're used to rap, hiphop, and stuff like that, you might just forget about going to see them. You probably won't appreciate them.

1. From William Burrough's book, The Naked Lunch
2. One of the finest jazz/funk groups of the seventies...their songs were basically sardonic takes on Hollywood (Glamour Profession - from album 'Gaucho' 1980) and America as a whole, always with an eye on current events...they even stuck a hand in a wee bit of reggae - Haitian Divorce (The Royal Scam - 1976) and a couple of others I've forgot now! So many well known jazz-soul bodies played in their band now and then, like Wayne Shorter, from Weather Report and Michael McDonald (of the Doobie Brothers).
Georgie...get a 'Best of...' collection - you'll be surprised.
Top tunes!!

They got their name from a description of a Dildo in "The Naked Lunch" by William Burroughs, easily one of the worst books ever written. Steely Dan III, used by a bull dyke who could cave in a lead pipe.

Walter Becker and Donald Fagen
Fantastic west coast music. their heyday was the 70's and 80's.
you may have heard of 'Haitian Divorce'
or 'Ricky, Don't lose that number'

they did one track that has always been in my personal top ten.. it perfectly described one of my ex-gf's, who was a few years older than me, but who had the attitude of someone ten years younger
'Reelin' in the years'

Your everlasting summer
You can see it fading fast
So you grab a piece of something
That you think is gonna last

they are still going strong.. check out the website: http://www.steelydan.com/

They were an influential funk/instrumental group in the 70's (and still going, I think). Their most famous album is 'Aja'
Donald Fagen was their singer, and they are worth checking out if you get the chance.
