Thanks for asking this interesting Q. If the question is asked metaphorically then the answer is: it is the people of Bangladesh that owns the country, like any democratic country in the world.

But deep down it is owned by the corrupt dynasty of politicians who have myopic view about how to run a country so that everybody gets a bit of the share of its progress, though may not be at 100% equal ratio.

What we have seen that these political goons were divvying out the loot (spoil, booty) among themselves that it sometimes appear that the country belongs to the devils holding state power with the blessings of so-called saviors of democracy who were treating and dictating these corrupt politicians (both past government and opposition parties) to behave, but the dictate was lopsided and we the people could see the naked interference of these foreign emissaries in our country's affairs.

Therefore, Bangladesh was belonging to the foreign Ambassadors and High Commissioners living in Dhaka till the 11th January 2007 when the State of Emergency was declared and new Neutral caretaker Government headed by Dr. Fakhruddin Ahmed took the administration of the interim-government.

Hope above would clarify the matter and thanks for your concern.

Bangladesh is a soveriegn nation just like any other nation. It was a state of Pakistan, and became an independent state in 1971.

You know, it was partly Pakistan's Islamist views that partly made the sepration happen. Mostly, it was for the sake of promoting Democracy.

However, there was a lot of corruption within its government and business activities, and this really pulls the country back from economic development.

The country is currently in a political crisis as to who should be the caretaker for the elections.
