You have asked a very difficult question... when you say 'influential' and 'culture', you mean influential in which way?

Let me start from the basics.

Singapore children learn the Queen's English since young, but grew up on American movies, and at the same time, hold traditional Chinese values. Strange?

This was what happened in my generation.

I think of us as a big bowl of salad, or a melting pot of cultural diversity as they always say.

Mmmeh. I keep on with British overseas coverage to a point, and that i watch BBC numerous nights a weel. I savour a straightforward volume of British television leisure, so I have some clues, yet to be straightforward, i'm not that into it. For the record, i do not pay quite a number of interest to "Southern" subculture contained in the U. S., or "New England" subculture, both.

Mostly Chinese culture - some British influence is still there (like playing rugby and cricket) and yes the all pervasive Americanism but it is definitely not the biggest influence.

if you're talking about traditions, then it'd have to be the Chinese and logically so as they're the majority race in Singapore (approximately 70%). culture-wise, in recent times it has got to be America. Globalisation brings with it Westernisation and more accurately Americanisation.

Predominantly Chinese and Asian culture which is family rooted. Applied to all of our people here.

On CNY 'sar-chap mae' dinner, the family will be having dinner and 'loh-hay' with Bon Jovi 'Its my Life' playing on the stereo.

english...they had previously set the standards for language, law & order, education, army & many others.
right now, sg is more inclined to america's culture- movies, sitcoms, universities, etc.
chinese, being the major ethnic race here, has slowly erode their identity in recent years. it is obvious during chinese new year, & other major chinese festivals. it is not as vibrant as it used to be.
