We have a beauitful back yard, except for 2 concrete septic tank lids. They are 12 feet from our patio door and are 2 feet from each other, they are about 18-20 inches across. I'm looking for any idea to hide them, it has to be something that can easily be moved off, to allow yearly access.
Best idea gets the 10 points...thanks for any suggestions

In my yard we use the "eyesore" as a base for yard baseball or the kids use chalk on it or paint it ot make it prettier. I also have a birdbath that fits over the top and covers up the septic cover OR some fake plants that can be designed to fit over the cover, but get ones that will fit in with the surroundings! HAHA Be creative!

I had the exact situation. My tank lids were about 15-20 from my patio. I built a berm in front of the lids and I made it 5 times wider than it is high so it looked more natural. The berm tapered around the sides and the back of the septic tank lids. I planted grasses and ivy on the berm. The lids are still exposed for cleaning but you can't see them unless you walk around the back now. I built a great looking waterfall with a small stream and it emptied into a pond of about 12X17 with fish in it. It takes some time to build but what a cool looking project when you get done. Everyone notices the pond but no one sees the lids. I did this myself but I am sure you can contract it out if you have deep pockets. If this is something you are interested in and I can
e-mail you some money saving tips.

Over one I would place a lightweight, ornamental well. You know with maybe some flowers in the bucket. The other could sport a birdbath, and possibly be incorporated to look like its base.
As long as both can be moved with relative ease for occasional maintenance, this should be fine.
They also make some rather large fake fiberglass rocks designed to hide Cable TV and other utility type structures that jut out in some front yards. These could be in the center of a rock garden. Place some slate walking tiles or similar so the septic workers have a place to step without crushing your plantings.

This requires a few relatively inexpensive, items...
A few pieces of natural flagstone from a local company that sells stone, sand, gravel, mulch, etc. for gardens and construction purposes. It shouldn't cost much...if you go all out, perhaps $45.00 for several decent size pieces that are easily moved individually. And, they come in some neat natural colors. The flagstone I've purchased comes in this pretty natural desert blush color.
If you purchase a few pieces you can place them over the entire area where your septic tank covers are (camoflaging that you're trying to cover up septic tank covers). Then place a few clay pots with something easy to keep growing like cactus in them. It'll be like a small potted plant area that can easily be moved aside when needed.

A replica of the famous statue "Thinker", which shows a nude man sitting with his chin propped up on arm while he sits and thinks.
Seriously, though, I would get some dirt and cover them up atleast to a minimal depth of 6 inches. Plant some grass over it and even it out to were it won't be such an apparent hump, too. This would take care of the "eyesore" factor and also appease any health concerns. The 6 inch depth would not be too much to dig up if needed. Just mark the spots to where you don't forget where they are.

We want a schrubbery (from Monty Python's Holy Grail movie, the Knights who say Nee). Seriously, depending on your yard arrangement, a bush or garden feature could easily hide the lids from view at the patio.
