In my experience, they are pronounced exactly the same way. And people wonder why English is so hard to master!

It can be, but doesn't have to be. There are no rules about pronunciation. Generally I've heard Elisabeth pronounced the same as Elizabeth, but you can pronounce it more like Elissabeth (long "s" sound) or E-lisa-beth (with Lisa in the middle). A little different from the norm.

Yep! Elisabeth Hassleback is on the View and they pronounce it just like Elizabeth on there. If that is how Barbara Walters' pronounces it then it must be right!

I belive that Elisabeth is the more popular old spelling and maybe even British spelling for the name. I also like the name Elsbeth which is VERY Brit!

Yes and changing the Z to an S will just insure that your child will have their name mis-spelled their entire life.
