Per the experts, pigs are smarter than dogs. But who would have one as a housepet? All I can say is 'pig manure' is one of the WORST smells on earth!
Yes, the Pot-Belly pig thing was hot for a while - notice how fast that passed? Once they became (150-200 pound) adults, rescues were inundated, and the craze died quickly!

My personal appreciation of dogs, although I like them very much, is that they are always eager to please their masters. To a point where it becomes stupidity. I mean by that, that you can have a dog do almost anything, even if it means doing absurd stuff. Ok.. it might be called loyalty but I think it is also a flaw, lacking individuality in other words.
Pigs on the other hand, will never do something if they don't want to, like cats. This is a trait that I think shows definite signs of a higher intelligence. The ability to think for itself rather than simply being obedient.
Both animals are considered intelligent because you can have them learn stuff and they can interact with humans. Pigs, just like dogs have been often compared to a 2-3 years old child so... what animal is more smart.. that's hard to say.
But as mentioned before... there's always exceptions or specially gifted animals.

I've never known a seeing eyed pig. Or a pig that knew how to herd cattle.
If by smart you mean the ability to comprehend and acrry out simple (and sometimes complex) tasks, the smartest dogs are smarter than the smartest pigs.

The pig wins hands down! He!!, the pig is smarter than a lot of humans that drive and talk on cell phones!

pigs are smarter. Through evolution dogs have been getting stupidder. Im not even kidding, its a fact. Pigs however havent been manipulted as much so they have the samebrain as their wild cousins.

dogs are usually trained more than pigs maybe if you train a pig it can be smarter than a dog,,,,,,,,that will do pig!

depends on what kind of dog. pigs are smart but compared to say, a border collie, the dog would win!
