The amount of hard drive you need (80 gig is the hard drive, not the memory, sorry to correct you) is related to what you do with the computer. Get a bigger hard drive if you either:
1. Download lots of music of videos.
2. Store lots of pictures or files on your computer.
Otherwise, 80 gig is a very large hard drive and it will serve you well.

with modern external diskdrives why worry about disk size
you can get all maner of USB devices, some of which may be bus powered, some may require external PSU's

mind you 80GB is one heck of a lot of space...... I can't think of any requirement on a Laptop or desktop that would actively require that sapce, that couldnt very happily be accomodated on an external drive (you could dump MP3's, photos etc on the external drive)

So id take a saving OR go for a higher spec laptop (the point about separate graphics cards is well made (things to avoid like th eplague are graphics cards that 'share' the main memory.. read slow the CPU down as it has to service additional tasks.

Bearing in mind most operasting systems require masses of memory to work.. id look at possibly adding more memory (Microsoft may claim Vista needs a minimum of 1GB...... I wouldnt be at all surprised if it could, but would require significantly more. I recentyly added another 2GB to a 1GB P4 3Ghz XP machine and it made a noticeable difference to performance.

You must mean 80 gig hard drive! 80 should be ok - on a laptop you won't be playing video games, so providing you're not going to store a huge number of hi-res photos, you should be OK.

Just in case you meant 80 meg memory, then the answer is NO don't touch it! You need a minimum of 512mb to run modern programs.

One hell of a laptop if it's got 80gig's of memory. I think that would be the size of the hard drive, 120g would be better.

If the laptop has only 80gb, then it probably not all that good.

A good laptop costs from $1000 to $1500

This is a good laptop, and it has a decent graphics card.

You cannot upgrade graphics cards, so get the best you can afford. It helps the resale value greatly.

80gig memory should be more than enough, mine has 1gb, Vista won't be demanding more than 2
