What a great question. In my case my parents chose my religion for me, they baptized me as a baby. The place of birth does determine what religion one accepts, mostly the religion is based on ones culture. I have not enough knowledge to answer your question about a rational God.

I am a Bible believing christian, but I don't believe like a religious person, I believe in God like I have a relationship. I believe in every word in the Bible. Humans can create many things, but the closer we come to the end the weaker our faith becomes. Religion has created barriers between us, and I have faith that it will only get worse before it gets better. Faith is what makes people believe there is a God, I believe in a loving God whom I call father. If I were only to trust the things I see, I would be a doubting and lost person. I have to believe that when I am driving home my House will be there, sure I can say that the street is there, because I see it, but I don't want the street to be the only thing I believe is there. Evil was created by man, not God, Hell is a place where his presence is completely gone. Slowly the Truth is being taken away from this world, God is the truth, we are making a hell like world because we are exploring other truths, I believe in the truth that there is a street (I believe in science) but I don't believe that this is all there is. Religions explore the false truths, so I skip the religion part and just Love God. I will with all my strength make a world a better place, full of the presence of Love, Life, Truth, and Good. I can not force anyone to believe, but the time has ended to be playing games the world is becoming a living Hell, I dare you to turn on the news and count all that is wicked and count all that is good. I dare you to ask your grandparents if the world now is the same world they lived in. Sure it is more prosperous, but what has our wealth gotten us? Greed, and corruptness. They say animals can feel the nature, such as earthquakes, and us humans unless we know it is happening we are obliviouss to our feelings. I believe us humans feel the impact of the end. Yolo, 2012, Zombie Apocalypses, we feel the end of the world coming soon, but not a physical end, a spiritual one. Tell me when did animals become more loving than humans, we have consciences they don't. When did we become so stupid as to let our children do stupid things, such as play with knives, swallow condoms and Cinnamon, our world is dying and then we ask why? Where is God!? Guess what God did not choose to leave, we pushed him out, and now we blame him. Guess what his is still on the same place he has allways been, on his thrown, waiting for us as one to ask for him back. We have forsaken God not the other way around. Even after this you still won't believe because of a lack of faith, and because of hard hearts. We have hard hearts so that we wont feel anything when we watch the people in this world die or get hurt.

Absolutely. I always say "Your religion is as much a function of where and when you were born as are the clothes you wear and the food you eat".
It's the height of folly to say "Well, you can be christian anywhere!". When you are told from age 3 to 20 that christians are the devil and trying to destroy your culture, when you finally meet a missionary at age 20, the odds are so far against your conversion that it's ridiculous. I know a couple that were missionaries in Yemen for 10 years and they converted ONE MAN in those 10 years.
You are correct, it's 2,000 years since Jesus was here and still about half of the world doesn't buy it. I deal with international students who literally ask "Who is Jesus?" Even I find that unbelievable (as an atheist) but there you are.

The Christian church itself proves that no matter who was against them they could survive and flourish.
In the beginning there was only Christ and His disciples against the Roman government as well as the Jewish high leaders.
The early Christians went into hiding or they would have been put in the arena in Rome.
Their is Christian churches in China and many followers were put to death.
Even in Natzi Germany people Christians helped the Jewish so that some would not be killed. Anne Frank?
Whenever a group of people are persecuted their is a force in nature that help them not only to survive but to flourish.
This does not have to be about Christians.
The white people tried to genocide the American Indians but have they gone away? Has the Amish gave up.
There are Christians even in Iran and Iraq. Where ever there is oxygen there is Christians.
Study the word of God. Faith comes by hearing the word of God.

I would not so much say that the location of your birth has so much influence, but the culture of the area DEFINITLY has an impact on your religious "upbringing". The culture and the society around you feeds you information about all kinds of issues, not just religion, and what is acceptable and not acceptable by those around you will definitly sway you to build a basis of beleifs from them.

The place of your birth does not often count in anyway in determining your religious affiliation. Your parents religious belief will be your default faith whatever it is.
Until such time that you have acquire the necessary maturity through knowledge, wisdom and understanding, you have no power whatsoever as to the outcome of your religious affiliation.
But, at the right time and at the right moment of our life, the decision as to whom we will serve "God or Religion" will come our way. In this matter our destiny will be decided by who we will choose.
God has laid down his plan of salvation for mankind, he has predestinated certain people (prophets, apostle, evangelist, scribes) to write down his laws and commandments and pronounce his will through this chosen one. Yet man continously ignore to this facts and called it unbelievable. A heresy on mans part.
Choice plays a major role in every human being everydays life. By this choice we made, we are creating a destiny for ourselves, and a just and rightful consequences is attached to it.
We cannot blame God on our failure to adhere to his calls, God has intructed us in 2 Tim 2:15 to study and show ourselves approved unto him, which means a right doctrine, right faith and a right pathway to travel.
in our ignorance we read in Romans 3:12 T"hey are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one." Is bulding a religion Good?
In the first place, God did not create any religion. It is mans way to walk on God knowledge through his created religion, a suppositon of who God is and what God does want. However, God build a church of which Jesus Christ is the corner stone and the head. God predestinated Jesus, the door to his kingdom on which a man must be saved. God did not mention nor say that we can be save by religion. As the scriptures says in Acts 4:12 "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."
Religion has its own name, an entity, a socio political religious entiry which we register in securities and exchange commission. of every country, While the church which Jesus build is not registered on earth but in heaven and the names of every member is fully written in the book of life.
Remember the Justice and righteousness of God is base on his attributes called LOVE.

Think of it like this, if you are hit with a waffle bat for your entire life, you will think that is normal, and will accept you were supposed to be hit with a waffle bat.
When you have a religion being beat in (or out) of you, unless you think yourself higher than the people, you will eventually succumb.

Darl,
Where you were born has nothing to do with it.
Who you are born to, ie your parents, has everything to do with it.
If your parents are muslim and believe that being muslim is the best, then they will raise you to believe the same thing. And unless you choose to question that belief you will go on believing that and raise your childrento do the same.

Yes, for those with lazy minds, following the parents and community belief blindly like lemmings.
No, for those discerning minds, seeking and deciding on their own...

No, because even if you were born as a muslim, you can still change your beliefs. Where you live may only influence on what your belief is. As well as what the belief of your family is.
