When are born, our brain is not trained yet to remember things. It is basically a blank hard disk that needs to be booted in order to remember things. Babies live on their senses, of which touch is the strongest. As we get older, our brains "learns" how to remember things, experiences, senses, etc, and we learn how to use our brain and mind.

The reason why babies do seem to remember who their mother is, has to do with their instinct and again, their senses. They know who their mother is through smell, touch, hearing and sight.

I think it is a good thing that we do not remember our day of birth, as it would be probably one of the most traumatic experiences.

My earliest memory? I was two or so, and it had snowed. Me and my dad, we went sleigh riding ( he dragged the sleigh behind him). It is a peaceful memory, and a cold one. I remember that, after coming home, I put my hands on the radiator to warm them up.

My first memory I was two, but it's a bit disturbing so I won't share it, but I have a theory as to why we can't remember the day we were born. I think that since it's been proven that we can block memories in traumatic experiences I theorise that we can't remember being born for that same reason. Think about it, all we know up until we're born is this comforting warm dark womb and all of a sudden we're being pushed out just to feel some strange hands yanking us into a cold light just to be slapped on the rear and start crying. That's what I think anyway.

We normally remember things from the age of 5 years before then is whats called the learning process where our brains start to be flooded with lots of information and it could not handle the sorting process at that point, when you are born your brain is taking in so much like a black hole sucking in all matter by 5 yrs it begins to ease itself of and this is when our memory kicks in .

I remember saying a bad word, and being chastised, at about 3, but my theory is that we are cared for by angels, and are in close link to the creator. This means we did not yet have a conscience, or a memory system to this. The memory system developed at different ages for different people.

The simplest answer is that children have no cognitive memory until teh age of 2 years old. That why most children start talking around that age. Our brains are still in the early developmental stage so we can capture memories so young. The ones that do make it through, stay in our subliminal memory.

Because our brain hasn't fully developed. As we go through life, our brains "learns" and "grows". As it does we "learn to remember". I can only remember from my 3 birthday, a pinata, cake, just bits and clips. Eventually, you won't remember when you were 8 or 9! A humans life is SO full, you will forget some things that happen. You can't remember everything.

my best memory from my childhood is when i first learned how to read a word at kindergarten.

New-born children do not have an IQ level to keep things in their mind, untill 2 or 3 years of age. And in some children with week IQ level, they cannot remeber their past even till 4 years of age or 5.

My first memory at 1and halve years old was of having my arm dislocated. My sister was carrying me and walked past a fridge and my arm got caught and was pulled backwards. I clearly remember screaming my head off. I did not know at that time that it was a fridge but when i questioned my mom about it she told me it was.
